Van tool theft: tradesmen lose £264m a year!
Britain’s tradespeople are having to fight for their income as van theft is depriving them of £264m a year, our latest study finds.
A survey of 1,037 tradies commissioned by Honcho has revealed that tool theft costs tradespeople a whopping £5,584 on average each time their van gets broken into, plus they lose an additional £5,982 in income as a result of jobs they had to cancel.
What’s more, 89% told us that their van insurance didn’t cover them for the full value of their tools, and 84% didn’t have any courtesy van cover to keep them working.
On average, a tradesperson’s van is broken into every 23 minutes in the UK* and according to our data, having tools and supplies stolen during a van break-in puts the average tradesperson out of work for 30 days.
In partnership with On The Tools, we staged a reconstruction of how some van owners are protecting their tools from theft – see our video below!
But of course, making sure you’ve got the right insurance to cover your needs is a smarter way to protect your van.
At Honcho, we want tradespeople to make sure that they have the right protection for them, and that their van insurance meets their own needs. Often, just buying the cheapest van insurance means you might not have the cover that you need, so download the Honcho app now and let us help you to get the van insurance that’s right for you, at the best possible price.
